Common Ground and social service agency Compass Housing Alliance joined forces back in 2008 to fill a growing need for affordable homes in North Seattle. The ultimate goal: the Nyer Urness House, 80 studio apartment units for formerly homeless and low-income adults. Despite overwhelming community support, the project was delayed for over two years in court. Due to the hard work and perseverance of Compass Housing Alliance and the project team, the Nyer Urness House survived this challenging obstacle and will break ground on Tuesday, February 21. Common Ground is proud to join Compass Housing in celebrating this outstanding project and long-awaited event.

The facility is named after Reverend Nyer Urness who served as Compass Center chaplain from 1989 to 2006.  According to Compass, his ministry was at the heart of their community, and it is in memory of his gracious spirit that they name this project after him.
