Joaquin UyCommunications Director
Joaquin brings to Common Ground over 10 years of communications and management experience. He has written for such community media organizations as the International Examiner and the Filipino-American Herald. He went on to report and produce for Community Radio KBCS 91.3 FM, Seattle’s Pacifica Network Affiliate. He later served as the station’s News and Public Affairs Director. At Common Ground, Joaquin is responsible for the organization’s website, communications and marketing. He updates Common Ground's Twitter and Facebook feeds, as well as coordinates Common Ground's advocacy. Joaquin is dedicated to building and maintaining the will to end homelessness within the halls of our state and federal legislatures. |

Outside of the OfficeJoaquin has a passion for community organizing and youth empowerment issues. He has worked for the 45th St. Youth Clinic as their lead homeless youth outreach worker, as a facilitator for Seattle Young Peoples Project and as a youth mentor in Seattle’s Filipino American community. Recently, he has served as a donor organizer for Social Justice Fund's Giving Projects and as a peace activist for the community nonprofit Philippine-U.S. Solidarity Organization (PUSO). He also currently serves on the board of Youth Media Institute, an organization that empowers young people to become leaders and artists through social justice media education.
