Transitional Resources adopted the “Housing First” model where chronically homeless men and women move directly into permanent affordable housing before receiving mental health treatment and supportive services.  So they looked to Common Ground for assistance with developing their first project utilizing this innovative  approach.  We not only provided them with Capital Needs Assessment consulting, but also full housing development services to help make Avalon Place a reality.  Avalon Place provides homes for some of the most vulnerable men and women in our community–individuals living with mental health issues while on the streets or in shelters. The new building includes 16 studio apartments overlooking Transitional Resources’ certified organic garden.  And residents have access to a diversity of support including case management and vocational services.
