Nothing quite embodies the adage of “beating swords into plowshares” like transforming a military base into housing for formerly homeless families; and that is just what we helped nonprofit Solid Ground do.  However, transforming Sand Point Naval Station into durable affordable housing had considerable challenges.  For instance, the entire base’s utility systems were separate from the surrounding city.  Also, the campus’s designation as a historic district meant more building restrictions than the average development.  Despite these obstacles, we helped Solid Ground every step of the way to its monumental grand opening in Spring of 2011.
