Bringing It Home
Yakima, WA 98902
In 2000, YWCA Board members and civic leaders wanted to address the growing need within the community, additional space at the old domestic violence shelter. There, the YWCA turned away between 7-20 families per month due to lack of space. In response to this, the “Bringing It Home” project was born. Bringing It Home merges all services, including emergency family shelter, transitional housing, a community resource center and YWCA administrative operations under one roof. The project is located on the edge of downtown Yakima and is close to parks, schools and downtown services. Common Ground assisted the YWCA in identifying financial resources for a project that had tremendous local and regional support. We were able to secure commitments from local 2060 and HOME funders. In addition, the YWCA conducted a successful capital campaign, raising over $1 million. Common Ground went on to provide project management through the first stage of completion.
