Market Street Station
Spokane, WA 99217
Since 1990, Inland Empire Residential Resources had been developing homes for people with developmental disabilities. But they noticed a void in projects serving elderly communities. So, with Common Ground’s development assistance, the agency decided to build their first multi-family housing for low-income, older adults. Named Market Street Station, the building has 33 studio and one-bedroom units reserved for seniors earning 30 percent or less of the area’s median income, with 7 units designated for residents with disabilities. Market Street Station is also next door to Spokane Elder Services, providing residents with assistance. The building also has commercial space on the ground floor and an open-air patio, a library and community space with a full kitchen. The development's construction was also a part of a larger Market Street revitalization process in downtown Spokane's historic Hillyard neighborhood.
