In the summer of 2010, Swinomish tribal members held a series of focus groups where people shared their vision for new affordable housing in their community.  Then, three community design workshops took place in the fall of 2010 where people could lay out how the new homes should be arranged on the site, and how each home should be organized. Based on the extensive feedback from these events, Tallawhalt was born.  Common Ground assisted Swinomish Housing Authority with this entire process to build homes that will truly reflect the lifestyles and needs of the residents.
